Recap

The final game of the 2014-15 season was played on Saturday, June 6th at Bonner-Prendergast High School. The starting lineup of team green looked dangerous with both Jake Saxton and Alex Pitts lining up on the same side of the red line but team yellow was not intimidated and up to the tough task. Through the first two periods, yellow was able to slow Saxton and Pitts by keeping them on the outside in the offensive zone and only allowing 2 goals. Defenseman Luke Hoban and Goalie Anthony Damico played a huge part in containing team green, with Hoban blocking a season high 9 shots and Damico stopping 20 of the 26 shots. The second line of team yellow, Caitlin Dontonville, Lea Danaghy, and Shelby Vanvliet provided all of the goal scoring and gave yellow the early 3-1 lead at the end of the first. In the third period, team green finally broke through with 4 goals, 2 from Pitts and 1 from Saxton and John Simko. Team yellow scored 1 goal to pull within one but team green finished out on top with a 6-5 win.
After the game, the yearly awards were given out. The Eric J. Perry Teamwork Award, voted by the players, was awarded to Jake Hartline and the Coaches Award, voted by the coaches, was awarded to Alex Pitts. Check out past award winners here. The annual season ending luncheon followed with hoagies, cheesesteaks, and chicken fingers. The PowerPlay would like to thank all of the players, coaches, and parents for another successful year of powerhockey. The tournament team will be practicing in the upcoming weeks leading up the the US Powerhockey Championship on July 16th-18th in Detroit, Michigan. We look forward to seeing everyone in October for another year of Philadelphia PowerPlay hockey!
