Recap

The Philadelphia PowerPlay played another game at Norristown Police Athletic League on Saturday, April 18th. Before the game, the PowerPlay announced the team captains for the remainder of the season and the tournament team that will be competing in this year’s US Powerhockey Championship in Detroit, Michigan. The game was a shootout between the Blue team and Red team with both teams scoring over 10 goals. The goalies were heavily outmatched in a game full of offense. Both teams were shooting from everywhere, many finding their way into the back of the net. The games leading goal scorers were Jake Saxton with 11, Alex Pitts with 9, Liam Miller with 6, and John Simko with 2. Blue came out with a quick lead in the first period and never looked back. They held off Saxton and team Red who made a late run but couldn’t complete the comeback. Anthony Damico was a key factor in protecting the lead for team Blue with 27 saves. Damico has led the team in wins and saves this season and is 3-0 in the past 3 games with 48 saves. Coach Saxton did some experimenting in net for team Red throughout the game, putting in Bryce Smith and Lea Danaghy. Smith and Danaghy who usually play forward positions, did an exceptional job keeping Red in the game and giving them a chance to win. The first tournament team practice will be held next week on April 25th for all tournament players at Bonner-Prendergast High School. The next game open for all players will be held on May 2nd also at Bonner-Prendergast High School.
